This CE event is intended to help attendees:
1. An overview of gambling disorder, prevalence, who’s impacted
2. Identifying the similarities/differences in SUD and gambling disorder
3. Identifying current/emerging gambling trends (sports betting, online gambling, cryptocurrency) and what we all need to be paying attention to
4. Creating awareness of the challenges in prevention, treatment and research.The Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies, provider #1487, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved as ACE providers. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies maintains responsibility for this course. ACE provider approval period:11/22/2020-11/22/2023. Social workers completing this course receive 1 continuing education credit.

2023 CCGP Statewide East Conference

The 2023 CCGP Statewide East Conference will focus on:

– Problem gambling among the LGBTQ+ community and why this community be at a higher risk of developing gambling related issues

– The scope of online gambling in Pennsylvania, and the impact that it’s having in terms of participation and development of problematic behaviors

– Bringing awareness to the presence and severity of gambling disorder among military service members and veterans and to provide a personal story of addiction.

– Applying the SAMHSA Strategic Prevention Framework to problem gambling among the general, as well as specific, populations

– Resources for help in Pennsylvania

The Problem Gambling Help Network of West Virginia/First Choice Services

At least 1 in 50 West Virginians experiences problem gambling, yet it is rarely screened for in medical and mental health settings. Even though those who struggle with gambling addiction have one of the highest rates of suicide, most professionals fail to recognize this disorder. We will discuss the many forms of gambling available in West Virginia, including why some are more addictive, the symptoms of gambling disorder, risk factors, and treatment options.

Educational Property Tour: Ohio Casinos and Racinos

PGNO is coordinating casino and racino property tours as part of Problem Gambling Awareness Month. Property tours are an opportunity for professionals in treatment and prevention to see the consumer protections implemented and build relationships with compliance staff at your local property.

Property tours will include a tour of the property, a discussion regarding consumer protections and compliance, an overview of the Voluntary Exclusion Program, Time Out Ohio, and an opportunity to connect with the compliance officers, gaming agents, and commission staff.

Webinar: Growing Trends in Gaming and Gambling and Today’s Emerging Adults

Dan Trolaro will explore the growth of gambling, specifically sports betting and risk of progression toward developing a gambling problem. We will discuss what makes college students vulnerable, discuss brain development, highlight similarities and differences with substance use disorder, identify warning signs, and make note of resources available while sharing his lived experience with gambling addiction.
