Ask Me Anything: The Rise of Visible Recovery

September is National Recovery Month. Join Adam Lyons, host of The Modern Meeting podcast, for an open conversation about the growing trend of people in recovery publicly embracing and sharing that identity. We’ll explore how social media has amplified these voices, making recovery stories more visible than ever. In this AMA, you’ll have the chance to ask questions and discuss what’s driving this shift, how it’s reshaping what recovery looks like, and what it means for connection, advocacy, and stigma reduction.

Presenter

Creator and Host, Modern Meeting Podcast

Adam Lyons

Adam Lyons is a compulsive gambler in recovery and the creator and host of The Modern Meeting podcast. For 20 years, Adam’s addiction controlled every part of his life — leading to job loss, relocation, financial collapse, and even committing illegal acts to fuel his gambling. Over those two decades, he cycled through more than 25 jobs and had 15 addresses in six different cities, always looking for a fresh start that never came to fruition. On February 8, 2022, he finally sought help through Gamblers Anonymous. Those meetings and the people in those rooms saved his life, and he has stayed away from a bet ever since.

About two years into his recovery, he created The Modern Meeting podcast out of a belief that as gambling continues to evolve and expand, the recovery conversation should evolve with it. Recovery is about consistently reaching for community, honesty, and support — especially in a world where disconnection fuels addiction. The podcast exists to bridge that gap and offer a space where people can share their stories — and know they’re not alone in what they’ve lived.
