Problem Gambling Awareness Month is a time to foster open, informed dialogue and challenge misconceptions about gambling-related harm. In this AMA, Andrew J. Schreier, International Certified Gambling Counselor and host of the “Talking Addiction & Recovery” podcast will explore how problem gambling stigma creates both individual and systemic barriers; from cultural norms that discourage help-seeking to systems that overlook gambling in screening, healthcare, and policy. We’ll discuss how stigma shows up in everyday language, interactions, and institutions; the ways family members, workplaces, healthcare professionals, and community systems can unintentionally reinforce silence; and what practical steps we can all take to create a more compassionate environment where people feel safe seeking support.
