The Policy & Funding Landscape

Today’s federal policy landscape presents a significant challenge. NCPG receives no dedicated federal or state funding, and there has not yet been sufficient political will to establish sustained public investment in addressing gambling-related harm.

We continue to educate policymakers about the need for greater federal investment, but we cannot wait for Congress to act. We must build greater urgency, awareness, and support in other ways.

Historically, NCPG has relied on a diverse mix of funding, including significant support from stakeholders across the gambling ecosystem, such as operators, suppliers, and sports leagues. As we plan for the future, we must also consider how to broaden and diversify the resources needed to advance our mission.

A large portion of our donations are restricted to specific mission-driven initiatives, such as the National Problem Gambling Helpline^TM (1-800-MY-RESET) and Agility Grants, with some funding also supporting the organizational capacity and infrastructure necessary to sustain and expand our impact. NCPG independently develops and operates all initiatives, programmatic decisions, and activities.

An operating principle we are embracing this year is to think innovatively and act with urgency as gambling-related harm continues to evolve. This strategic planning process challenges us to ask difficult questions, reconsider long-standing assumptions, and identify where NCPG can make the greatest impact.

It also requires us to think differently about how we expand our reach while honoring NCPG’s history, strengthening support for our current membership, welcoming new voices and perspectives, and securing the resources needed to advance our mission. We cannot rely solely on what is familiar. We must be prepared to evolve with a changing landscape while helping shape what comes next.
