Membership and Donations Do Not Equal Endorsement
Dear NCPG Members & Stakeholders,
One of the questions we have received in recent months is whether membership, sponsorship, or donations from an organization constitute an endorsement by the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG).
The answer is no.
As a nonprofit organization, NCPG maintains a clear separation between funding and influence. Contributions, sponsorships, membership dues, grants, and donations support our mission and programs, but they do not provide donors or members with authority over NCPG’s governance, policy positions, educational content, research priorities, advocacy efforts, strategic direction, or organizational decisions.
NCPG’s educational programs, conference content, policy positions, research initiatives, and advocacy efforts are developed through established organizational processes and guided by our mission, available evidence, subject matter expertise, strategic plan, and the needs of those affected by gambling-related harm.
With full transparency, membership in NCPG does not constitute an endorsement of any organization or their products, services, business practices, or policy positions.
NCPG has long welcomed a diverse membership that is inclusive of recovery advocates, clinicians, researchers, State Affiliates, Tribal organizations, healthcare professionals, regulators, operators, vendors, and other stakeholders. This diversity of perspectives strengthens our ability to advance meaningful solutions and foster productive dialogue.
At the nucleus of our mission is the individual and their family. That commitment guides every decision we make. We remain firmly grounded in our public health framework as we advocate for consumer protections, advance harm reduction efforts, and work to ensure that those affected by gambling-related harm have access to the support they need.
We are committed to transparency, listening to stakeholder feedback, and ensuring that our actions are guided by our mission, values, and responsibility to the individuals, families, and communities we serve.
With kind regards,
Derek Longmeier, President, NCPG Board of Directors & Heather L. Maurer, NCPG Executive Director
