Jaime Costello

Jaime Costello is the Director of Programs at the National Council on Problem Gambling and is currently leading the modernization of the National Problem Gambling Helpline. In addition, she oversees planning, development, and evaluation of NCPG programs, supports strategic planning efforts through consistent monitoring, and serves as a spokesperson for national problem gambling efforts. Jaime is an experienced public health professional with over fifteen years of experience working in the problem gambling field.  She is passionate about engaging the community in change efforts and emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary work. Jaime received her Master of Public Health from the University of New England and lives with her family in the Adirondack Park.

Melodie Keen

Melodie Keen currently serves as the Clinical Manager of Gambling Services for CT Renaissance in Norwalk, Stamford and Bridgeport, CT. She has been working in the behavioral health and addictions field for nearly 40 years. In addition to her current supervisory and administrative responsibilities, Melodie provides individual, group and family therapy services to clients who are affected by gambling, whether the gambler or their loved ones.

Stephen Matos

Stephen Matos is a person in long-term recovery, 37 years from gambling and alcohol, as well as a person affected by gambling. Stephen has been working in gambling treatment for over 10 years as a peer counselor working with persons affected and persons with gambling disorder, facilitating trainings in colleges, treatment programs and recovery programs across Connecticut.

Following this session, attendees will be able to 

• Describe the impact of problem gambling on family members and loved ones. 
• Identify other mental health issues that loved ones are more at-risk for. 
• List three ways loved ones can manage and protect their finances if their loved one is gambling. 
• Explain the role that loved ones play in a loved one’s recovery. 
• Name two resources for family members who are impacted by someone else’s gambling behavior.

• The International Gambling Counselor Certification Board (IGCCB).
