Course Description: As gambling opportunities continue to expand, concerns about problem and disordered gambling have become an increasingly important issue for the behavioral health field. Behavioral health professionals and provider agencies are uniquely positioned to respond to this growing societal challenge, yet many are unsure how to begin. This training explores why gambling-related harm matters to behavioral health and how agencies can build the capacity to effectively serve individuals, families, and communities impacted by gambling.
The session will begin with an environmental scan of today’s gambling landscape and its implications for community well-being. Participants will gain an overview of practical entry points for agencies new to providing gambling-related services, including foundational program development considerations and early-stage service models. The training will also highlight core engagement strategies and clinical skills to support clients experiencing gambling-related harms.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will learn methods to engage with clients regarding gambling-related harm through screening, discussions, and education.
- Participants will recognize challenges incorporating a new service at an agency and how to overcome anticipated barriers.
- Participants will understand the importance of advocating for those impacted by gambling including agency messaging acknowledging gambling-related harm and promoting staff and personnel awareness of problem and disordered gambling.
Continuing Education: 1.5 Supervision CEUs are available for this training. Who Should Attend: Treatment professionals that oversee gambling treatment services Presenters: Mike Rosen, LPCC-S, ICGC-I Mike is a licensed professional clinical counselor with supervision designation. He has spent the last 15 years in the field of addiction treatment and co-occurring disorders. He is currently working in a private practice setting helping individuals deepen insights to addiction tendencies. He received a Master of Arts degree in Community Counseling from Xavier University and has received advanced training in the treatment of gambling disorder. He has provided gambling-specific trainings at the state and local levels, and provides supervision for PGNO’s Supervision Cohorts. Jesse Wodrig, MBA, LCDCIII-GAMB, ICGC-I, OCPSA Jesse Wodrig is currently the Director of Clinical Programs at Problem Gambling Network of Ohio (PGNO). He is involved in the coordination and delivery of services through Ohio Gambling Telehealth Network, Warm Transfer available through the Ohio Problem Gambling Helpline, and clinical training offered by PGNO. Prior to joining PGNO, Jesse had worked in areas including case management, counseling, and administration in the substance use disorder services field.
