Sunrise Community for Recovery and Wellness, in collaboration with the NC Problem Gambling Program, has pioneered a first of its kind problem gambling peer support program. Over the past year, we have embarked on a remarkable journey marked by both triumphs and obstacles. This presentation will delve into our significant accomplishments and the challenges we’ve faced. Our objective is to share the insights we’ve gained, encouraging other regions to adopt problem gambling peer support models. Furthermore, we aspire to establish a strong framework that can serve as a blueprint for other organizations aiming to develop similar programs. CE’s Available: 1 (See Accreditation Statements)

These sessions are designed for those counselors who are or plan to be working with problem gamblers and their families in a variety of clinical settings. We welcome participants from the criminal justice field, the employee assistance field, the faith and pastoral care traditions, educators, the gaming industry, the recovering community and others to our programs. Though the information is designed for counselors to incorporate into their clinical practice we hope all of our participants, no matter who they may be, will learn about the effects of gambling disorder on the individual, family, and community and use the information to help those who fall into their own professional scope of practice. Completion of 30 hours of gambling-specific training education may allow participants to become eligible as a referral source for the WCPG’s 1-800-426-2535 Helpline. Self-exclusion programs are the beginning of a journey that now encompasses blocking software, treatment providers, financial services and other stakeholders which can all play a role in a much more collaborative approach to gambling cessation. TalkBanStop has been emulated in Ohio, Norway, Finland and the Netherlands, combining free blocking software with self-exclusion and bridging service users into treatment. With gambling no longer limited to casinos and racetracks, young adults are being targeted in ways we’ve never seen before. From sports betting apps to online casinos, gambling is embedded in their digital lives—and the consequences are growing. Since the expansion of online betting in 2018, rates of problem gambling among young adults have surged. Are parents, college staff, coaches and counselors ready? This year’s MNAPG conference will explore the why behind the trend, review the latest research and share insights from experts in treatment, recovery and academia. Through deep discussion and collaboration, attendees will leave with a clearer understanding—and a shared set of next steps. Who Should Attend? The conference is appropriate for college staff, addiction counselors and therapists, social workers, law enforcement, school and church leaders, other health care and social service workers, lawyers, financial professionals, people in recovery and their families. CEU credits are available from various Minnesota professional licensing boards.
