An Introduction to Problem Gambling Screening Tools

Effective screening is necessary for identifying gambling-related harm, understanding severity, and supporting intervention. This webinar will introduce three tools used to screen for problem gambling: the Brief Biosocial Gambling Screen (BBGS), the Problem Gambling Severity Index (PGSI), and the Emerging Adult Gambling Screen (EAGS). Participants will learn what each tool measures, how it is structured, and the settings in which it is most useful, with special attention to screening considerations for younger populations. The session will compare the strengths and limitations of each screening tool, provide guidance on administration and scoring, and discuss how screening results can inform supportive interventions and referrals to recovery services. 19th Annual Nevada State Conference on Problem Gambling

Get ready for an engaging and impactful experience in Reno under the theme “Best of All Worlds.” For the first time, the conference will feature a full day dedicated to addressing problem gambling and related challenges in Indian Country. Join us at the Nevada State Conference on Problem Gambling, our annual convening designed to build skills, strengthen partnerships, and improve Nevada’s response to problem gambling. This conference brings together stakeholders across prevention, education, research, government, the gaming industry, the recovery community, and addiction and mental health services. We encourage anyone with interest in this topic to join us at this event. Registration includes Continuing Education Units (CEUs), breakfast, lunch, and refreshment breaks throughout the conference. The Nevada Council on Problem Gambling is an approved Continuing Education Provider recognized by the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug, and Gambling Counselors and the International Problem Gambling and Gaming Certification Organization. CEU applications will also be submitted to additional Nevada professional boards. This conference is made possible in part by grants from the State of Nevada Problem Gambling Prevention & Treatment Fund.

This event brings together prevention leaders, behavioral health professionals, community organizations, and lived‑experience advocates to explore emerging trends in gambling and gaming harm across Virginia.
Applying a Public Health Approach to Problem Gambling Prevention

As access to gambling expands, many communities remain unaware of the potential harms, the populations disproportionately affected, and the value of an equity-grounded public health approach. This introductory training explores core problem gambling concepts and terminology, key risk and protective factors, populations at elevated risk, and connections to related health issues. Participants will learn how a public health framework can help protect and improve community well-being. At the end of this training, participants will be able to: Identify key components of a public health approach to problem gambling prevention and response. Describe levels of gambling and their associated risks Identify problem gambling risk and protective factors Identify groups at disproportionate risk for developing problem gambling Describe ways problem gambling intersects with other behavioral health issues. This training has been approved to provide CPS, CAC, CADC, CADC II, and CHW CEU’s.

Gambling Disorder Training Series

Stage I: Gambling, Problem Gambling, and Ohio's Service System 04-01-2026 10:00 AM Schedule: This virtual training will run on Wednesday, April 1 - Friday, April 3, 2026. Each day the session will run from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM EST, with a 1-hour break from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM. All three days will have 4 hours of content, totaling 12 hours.   Course Description: Stage I provides 12 continuing education hours of gambling specific education that will increase participants’ knowledge and understanding of the current climate of gambling and gambling expansion, problem gambling risks and warning signs, at-risk populations and co-morbidities of problem gambling with substance abuse and mental illness.   Learning Objectives: Participants will understand problem gambling definitions and current statistics Participants will recognize current trends and dates specific to Ohio’s gambling and gaming landscape Participants will learn the risks and warning signs of problematic gambling Participants will understand comorbidities of gambling addiction, substance abuse, and mental illness Participants will become familiar with screening tools to identify gambling addiction Participants will become familiar with support services and available resources Who Should Attend: Treatment professionals looking to specialize in treating gambling disorder   Cost: $50 Continuing Education: 12.0 CEUs are available for this training which can be used toward obtaining the GAMB Endorsement through the Ohio Chemical Dependency Board or towards becoming a counselor qualified to treat gambling disorder through the Ohio Social Worker, Counselor, and Marriage & Family Therapist Board.   Problem Gambling Network of Ohio is an approved continuing education provider through the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board, the Ohio Counselor, Social Work, and Marriage & Family Therapist Board, and the International Problem Gambling and Gaming Certification Organization.   Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board Subject Areas: P2: 4.75 HRS; P3: 1.25 HRS; P6: 3.5 HRS; PR1: 2.5 HRS C1: 5.75 HRS; C2: 1.0 HR; C3: 0.5 HRS; C4: 1.25 HRS; C7: 1.25 HRS G1: 3.25 HRS; G2: 4.75 HRS; G3: 2.5 HRS; G4: 1.5 HRS Lead Trainers: Claire Spada, OCPC, ICPS & Olivia Burris CDCA Claire Spada is the Director of Workforce Development for PGNO. In this live AMA event, Valerie Tebbetts, IGRS, BARA, a helpline operator from the National Problem Gambling Helpline Network, will provide insights and answer questions about the call experience – from the first point of contact to how privacy is protected and callers are connected to local treatment, and recovery resources. The National Problem Gambling Helpline™: Contact Data, Key Emerging Trends, and Expanding Partner Impact

The National Council on Problem Gambling, in collaboration with key partners and researchers from the Omni Institute, analyzed three years of National Problem Gambling Helpline™ data to identify key trends in help-seeking behavior. This webinar will present findings from the analysis, which reviewed traffic patterns, contact volume and modality, demographics, and other indicators. Presenters will explore key emerging trends, including shifts in demand, evolving access pathways, and the influence of policy and market changes, such as the expansion of online sports betting. These insights will be used to inform ongoing efforts to strengthen service quality, and alignment between states, providers, and partners in addressing emerging needs. Ask Me Anything: A Parent’s Perspective on Navigating a Child’s Gambling Addiction

Join Kim Freudenberg, the mother of a young person impacted by gambling addiction, for an open conversation about what it means to support a child through gambling-related harm. Drawing from her lived experience, Kim will share insights into the emotional, financial, and relational impacts gambling addiction can have on parents and caregivers. This interactive Ask Me Anything session will explore the realities of recognizing harm, navigating treatment and recovery systems, advocating for appropriate care, and seeking support as a loved one, with attendees encouraged to bring questions and engage in a candid dialogue centered on the parent experience.
