Mindful Self-Compassion in the Treatment of Gambling Disorder

Lori Rugle, PhD, IGCG-II, BACC

Mindfully Based Relapse Prevention/Recovery Promotion paradigms for the treatment of addictive behaviors including gambling disorder have been increasingly supported by evidence as a best practice.  Mindful Self-Compassion focused therapy provides a particular focus on developing an approach to addressing a range of mental health and addiction problems that emphasizes helping clients to develop a sense of kindness, warmth and emotional responsiveness to themselves as they face the challenges of recovery.  This workshop will present an overview of the research on Compassion Focused Therapy including the neurobiology of self-compassion practice and engage attendees in an interactive exploration of mindful self-compassion practices that can be utilized with clients, supervisees and as part of our self-care as clinicians.
