Washington, DC (July 31, 2019) – The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) thanks the sponsors of the 33rd National Conference on Gambling Addiction & Responsible Gambling, held July 17-20, 2019 in Denver, Colorado. Since the Supreme Court ruling on sports betting in May 2018, there has been increased attention to all forms of gambling from the commercial, legislative, and public health points of view, making 2019 a pivotal year for dialogue and education in problem gambling, gambling addiction, and responsible gambling.
The National Conference on Gambling Addiction & Responsible Gambling brings together diverse stakeholders to provide expert training to problem gambling and gambling professionals from across the nation. Over 500 attendees specializing in the areas of treatment, prevention, education, research, judicial, regulatory, legislative, and other fields, as well as the recovery community, came together in Denver. Special summits were held to focus on topics including regulatory issues, tribal responsible gambling, and sports betting, Such topics prove especially pertinent in this pivotal year as 19 states have legalized sports betting in the last fourteen months.
The conference was hosted by the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) and the Problem Gambling Coalition of Colorado, a state affiliate of NCPG and an all-volunteer nonprofit organization. Over $360,000 in direct support was contributed for the conference from a total of 29 sponsors, including significant underwriting from the Colorado Lottery. All sponsorship contributions support the conference and the work of the National Council on Problem Gambling.
PGCC President Lawrence Wall, Jr. stated: “We were proud and honored to host the National Conference and help showcase the growing strength of responsible gambling partnerships in Colorado, especially with the Colorado Lottery. This conference would not be possible without their support.”
NCPG Executive Director Keith Whyte said “We were very excited to locate our conference in Denver this year, enabling us to more directly reach stakeholders in the region. We work with people from all sides of the issue – from gaming operators to healthcare providers and regulatory agencies – reflecting our mission to bring together everyone involved. We feel that it’s important that all these voices are heard as we work toward our common goal of reducing harm from gambling addiction.”
