Next Generation Helpline program increases accessibility of help for younger callers and online gamblers

The National Council on Problem Gambling is adding text and chat services to the National Problem Gambling (800.522.4700) Helpline. These new features will enable those who are gambling online or on their mobile phones to access help the same way they play. By adding text and chat alongside the existing voice network, NCPG will expand accessibility and increase privacy for users. The new text and chat services will be integrated into our existing distributed network of state and regional call centers that cover the entire country. One call, text or chat will get you to problem gambling help anywhere in the U.S. 24/7/365. The next generation of gambling help and hope is coming to NCPG!

The Helpline Network is our national “911” safety net for problem gamblers and their loved ones. This enhanced program also includes partnering with an online peer support forum. We have secured 800.522.4700 as the national text number, so that people can now text to the same number we’ve been promoting and they’ve been calling for more than 20 years. Since 2000 the National Helpline has received more than 3 million calls. Chat will be a link to a dedicated page on the NCPG site, www.ncpgambling.org/chat. Anyone will be able to link to the chat page. We are also partnering with GamTalk to provide a moderated 24/7 online peer support forum.
