    As part of Native American Heritage Month, join us for a panel discussion moderated by Wiley Harwell, Executive Director at Oklahoma Association for Problem and Compulsive Gambling. The panelists are Shelia Morago, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Indian Gaming Association Kara Fox-LaRose, President and General Manager of the ilani Casino; and Shannon May Dictson, Responsible Gaming Program Coordinator at Mescalero Apache Tribal Gaming Commission. The topics include:

    • The importance of Sovereignty to the tribes and how it affects responsible gambling efforts.
    • Any cooperative efforts that tribes have with other tribes to develop and implement responsible gambling programs.
    • An evaluation of how the pandemic has affected casino operations for tribes and how a tool like Telehealth was expanded to provide more service for people.
    • An analysis of how the program gambling helpline works in their state and whether there should be a more centralized and national helpline number for all the states.
    • Opinions of what the emergence of sports betting means for the tribes and how it is changing their current responsible gambling efforts.
    • What effects casinos have had on specific tribes and how it was different before the Indian Gaming and Regulatory Acts of 1988 became law.
