Jiu Jitsu means Gentle Art and Clinical “Jiu Jitsu” is about having the skills to gently consider different angles, timing, and ways to intervene and use tools in the therapeutic process with gambling disorders. The presenters believe there are three focus areas clinicians will benefit from when working with individuals with gambling disorders. With today’s advancements in technology and the continued expansion of the gaming industry to online/internet-based options, clinicians need to master skills to match these new advancements. This workshop will walk you through the three focus areas and give you the tools and techniques for your own Clinical Jiu Jitsu practice. You will also learn more about their new book, “The Gambling Disorder Treatment Handbook: A Guide for Mental Health Professionals” and how it is intended to increase gambling counseling clinical skills in their work with their clients. The goal of the current workshop is to highlight three clinical jiu jitsu skills that are useful when working with problem gamblers: generational characteristics, finances and technology.
