The goal of the Four Directions conference is to Honor Our Past and Protect Our Future through holistic health, wellness, and recovery support; from expanding knowledge and skills to experiencing healing and teaching tools that honor the traditional heritage of many cultures.We hope to bring together Tribal leaders, behavioral health directors and counselors, education and prevention specialists, recovery and peer coaches, and representatives of the gaming industry to support each other with knowledge and experience around health issues, gambling disorder and other addictions, and financial and safety concerns that affect all our communities. We invite you to join in a fantastic celebration of our 10th Annual Four Directions conference.
Each year the New York Council on Problem Gambling seeks to bring together researchers, legislatures, counselors and other problem gambling experts from all over the world to increase the knowledge of NYS professionals and bring focus to this devastating disorder. With focuses on prevention, treatment and recovery, this conference provides diversified training and is valuable for a variety of professions. Additionally, NYCPG seeks to provide a strong focus on increasing awareness that treatment works and recovery is possible.
Navigating the Future of Problem Gambling
This year we’re excited to feature Spencer Christian as our keynote speaker! Best known as the former weather forecaster for ABC’s Good Morning America, Spencer recently authored a book entitled, “You Bet Your Life,” in which he details his struggles with disordered gambling.
We are also thrilled to be joined by Cam Adair, internationally-known YouTuber and pioneer on video gaming addiction. He will be sharing his personal journey of overcoming his addiction to the gaming world and offer key insights into how gaming and social media are designed to keep people hooked.
We’ll also have workshops and sessions on at-risk populations and the far-reaching impact of gambling, gaming and other risky behaviors; the intersection of problem gambling and human trafficking; legislative and advocacy updates in CT and much more!
30-hour Introductory Problem Gambling Counselor Training, Feb 11-14; Advanced Training Workshops Feb 13-14, including: Building Skills in Motivational Interviewing; Effective Treatment Planning: From Assessment to Termination; Introduction to Mindfulness-based Relapse Prevention for Treating Disordered Gambling; and The Art and Science of Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
