Massachusetts Council on Gaming and Health presents: Spring Training Institute-Foundations in Gambling Disorder

Are you interested in developing the knowledge and skill set to identify and address problem gambling in your clinical practice or social service setting? Hidden problems with gambling often derail recovery from mental health and substance use disorders as signs and symptoms are often missed.
Join our Training Institute; Foundations in Gambling Disorder, a 30-hour course designed increase community access to comprehensive, competent care and improve treatment outcomes. The Training Institute provides foundational knowledge of gambling disorder for providers in behavioral health settings and can be applied towards the Gaming Health Specialist (GHS) Certificate.

Military personnel and veterans are at higher risk for gambling problems. Therefore, NCPG, in partnership with RG 24seven and funding from the Entain Foundation US, is launching Operation Responsible Gambling to increase awareness of risk for gambling problems in the military community using brief videos by veterans in recovery from gambling problems. Join NCPG Executive Director Keith Whyte and other partners to learn more about the issue and the campaign.

This training is designed to help both clinical and non-clinical direct care staff to learn specific, effective, interventions for different types of Bettors to help reduce or eliminate gambling episodes throughout their treatment. Participants will learn how to help clients create crucial barriers to gambling early on in treatment based on the client’s fame of choice. Discussion will focus on different types of Bettors including Casino, Lottery, Online, Sports, and Off-Track Betting. Additional discussion will include how to help clients deal with financial burdens and support for family members.
Learning Objectives:
-Identify a specific intervention for each of the 5 different types of betting
-Learn 2 different types of boundary setting to share with Persons Affected
-Learn 2 financial interventions to implement at the onset of a treatment episode
The Massachusetts Council on Gaming and Health has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No.6331. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. The Massachusetts Council on Gaming and Health is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.

The Midwest Consortium on Problem Gambling and Substance Abuse (MCPGSA) invites you to participate as a sponsor at the 18th Annual Midwest Conference on Problem Gambling and Substance Abuse, which is scheduled for June 16-17, 2021. The conference will be held virtually this year to keep our attendees and sponsors safe. The theme will be “Celebrating Inclusivity and Hope: Recovery in Uncertain Times”. The two-day, virtual multi-state training event is the result of the planning efforts of the MCPGSA, a volunteer committee comprised of addiction specialists, problem gambling program coordinators and organizations throughout a five-state region – Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. The regional conference features up to 10 continuing education units (CEUs) provided by problem gambling, substance abuse and co-occurring disorders experts. In 2019, over 150 individuals attended the conference from throughout the country.

The Main Conference with unlimited available seating will be held on four afternoons in July and recordings will be available for a limited time afterward to registered attendees. NCPG’s Annual Members Meeting will take place online during the Main Conference weeks of our National Conference. You’ll hear a report from Executive Director Keith Whyte, as well as our board treasurer. Membership Committee Chair Elizabeth Lanza will also speak. This meeting will occur online in order to make it available to as many members as possible during the pandemic.
