Position Overview

The Communications Manager keeps their finger on the pulse of everything that is happening with NCPG efforts and those of our affiliates and partners, making sure the world knows about the good work that is being done – as well as what is not being done but could be.

Essential Functions

Manage membership communications

  • Produce monthly membership newsletter, including solicit and edit articles, graphics, staff content and data
  • Develop brochures & flyers, emails strategy and other outreach to members and prospects
  • Create annual report, including coordinating content from staff members
  • Major internal outreach groups include all three membership classes

Manage external communications efforts

  • Major external communications outreach groups include national media, key stakeholders and opinion leaders.
  • Manage NCPG’s major awareness programs: Holiday Lottery Responsible Gambling Campaign and Problem Gambling Awareness Month
  • Manage social media accounts, including providing regular updates, on NCPG’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and other channels.
  • Manage Annual Awards program – solicitation, committee work, judging, and ceremony at national conference.
  • Manage marketing and promotion efforts for:
    • National Conference – brochure, attendee booklet, rack card, on-site photographer, photos
    • Annual Advocacy Day and related legislative events and campaigns.
  • Draft and distribute press releases; maintain press contacts list and awareness of current relevant press mentions.
  • Respond to media requests, coordinate interview schedules with senior staff.
  • Manage direct mail campaign(s) for development efforts, especially Year-End Appeal.
  • Create basic graphic designs and layout for social media, email blasts and other communications materials, including white papers and national research reports.
  • Arrange for and staff exhibit booth at selected conferences.
  • Staff liaison to Communications, Awards Committees

Manage websites

  • Updates, content, and design of current websites & and two microsites: and
  • Manage and drive redesign of NCPG website including create timeline, solicit and review design proposals, supervise vendor, transfer and create content, test all functionality

Plan the future: analyze existing efforts and develop plans to implement strategic plan public awareness initiatives, including national communications plan and national PSA initiatives, with potential partnerships that include the national professional sports leagues and sports betting companies among NCPG’s members.

Provide monthly reporting and analysis on communications output, usage and growth in all communications channels with context and comparison on a larger scale.

Other duties as assigned.

Additional Information

Ideal candidate will:

  • Have at least 3 – 5 years’ experience with most if not all of the above communications areas.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related area required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, strong interpersonal verbal communications skills both in-person and by telephone; and a sense of humor.
  • Commit to a minimum two-year period of employment.

The position is based in the Washington, DC metro area. This is a full-time, permanent role.

During the coronavirus pandemic, NCPG employees are working from home. When the pandemic is resolved, domestic overnight travel is required for this position, for a combined total of approximately two to three weeks per year (at employer cost).
