2012 NCPG Annual Conference Submission Instructions

The 2012 Program Committee calls on advocates, clinicians, researchers, gaming operators, regulators and recovering gamblers to submit pre-conference workshops, breakout presentations, prevention showcases and posters for the 26th National Conference on Problem Gambling.

The bulk of the sessions address basic and advanced clinical issues. Other topics include recovery, prevention and gambling policy, legislation & regulation.  Additional areas of interest include special populations, ethics and legal issues, internet gaming, public awareness and outreach, financial literacy and family issues.  Counselors comprise the majority of the audience; other attendees include researchers, legislators, regulators, prevention specialists, gaming industry executives and employees, media, policy makers, recovering gamblers and family members.

The benefits of presenting include:

  • Lead presenters receive a complimentary regular conference registration that includes access to regular educational sessions, networking events and meals July 13 and July 14. (This does not include pre-conference workshops or private events. Co-presenters/panelists must register at the regular rate.  Included meals are continental breakfast and lunch.)
  • Promotion of your credentials in online and print marketing materials.
  • Recognition of your expertise by other professionals in the field.
  • Continuing education credit, if applicable.
  • Networking opportunities and exposure to decision makers from the field.

The 2012 Program Committee will consider the applicant presenter's experience and credentials as well as the impact of the presentation - how it will enhance a participant’s specific knowledge and skill levels, the incorporation of evidence-based or best practices, and the practicality and adaptability of the presentation.

Deadline for Submissions: Tuesday, January 31, 2012

Presentations are accepted in the following formats:

  • Breakout presentations are usually given by one presenter focusing on a specific topic, but may also be configured as a Panel or Roundtable with up to three additional speakers.  Breakout presentations are given in breakout sessions of approximately 60 minutes, which includes time for introductions and questions.
  • Posters are presented in a plenary session and provide an avenue for informal discussions among colleagues and interested browsers. Poster presentations require the preparation of a visual display of the essential contents of a paper (e.g. abstract, short narrative, enlarged graphs or pictures, and a brief conclusion).
  • Pre-Conference Workshops are offered for intensive and specific skill development which incorporates hands-on exercises and a significant amount of dialogue.  Sessions are a minimum of 3 hours and participants must sign up in advance for specific sessions with a limited number of seats.
  • Prevention Showcase features selected programs in an interactive exhibit-hall setting to present their information and engage with the attendees.  Showcase presenters are specifically requested to develop handouts with information on their program’s target audience, goals, strategies, budget, timeframe, methods, evaluation and results.
  • Proposals for other formats are encouraged and will be given careful consideration.

Presentations should reflect new and original work.  Time and space restrictions severely limit the number of presentations we can accept, and presenters may be asked to alter their submission to fit the program.  All presenters, co-presenters and panelists are required to register for the conference, and are also responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses.  All who submit a proposal will be notified by March 16, 2012 regarding the Committee’s decision, which is final.  NCPG reserves the absolute right to accept or reject submissions at its sole discretion.  We are happy to accommodate any special needs, but please let us know as soon as possible to allow us to make appropriate arrangements.
